About the Artist

Richard Morin I received professional art training at an early age. The Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences was a wonderful place to explore art with dedicated professionals.

Upon leaving high school and military service my wife and I had two daughters to raise and support. My artwork and love of it were put on the back burner. Thirteen years ago I decided that it would be a great time to re-energize my art interest.

I took several courses at the NH Institute of Art to test the waters of what interested me. I have a love of artwork that has strong use of color. I fell in love with the oil medium. I participated in workshops teaching Monotype. I liked the spontaneity of the medium–the unpredictability of it. My first venture back was in the creation of Monotypes.

“A monotype is an original work of art which has been created by transferring an image that has been painted on a plate made of plastic, metal or other material. Transference is accomplished by using an etching press or by hand-rubbing the image to paper, resulting in textures and surface effects that cannot be obtained when working directly on paper....”

I still create monotypes but also work with oil-sticks on paper, and canvas work using traditional oil paint as well as oil sticks.

For the past 13 years my style has evolved into what you see on this web site. Color plays an important role in the magnetism of my work. I currently show my work at many Art fairs throughout New England. I am represented by Anderson-Soule Gallery, this new gallery representation will allow me to sell my work in a gallery atmosphere throughout the year.

My work is in numerous private as well as corporate collections around the country. My goal as an artist is to evoke an emotional response to my work. Whether its wonder, surprise or a memory , if I do this then I have accomplished my goal.
